New Product Demo Day(s)

Alrighty, this post is going to introduce you all to two new products I am demo-ing that I am quite excited about. The first being nutrition in the form of HYDROGEL TECHNOLOGY from a pretty bad-ass company called Maurten. They have helped fuel some pretty so-so athletes ranging from world-class marathon runners and cyclists alike. They have two products: Drink Mix 160 and Drink Mix 320 that essentially contain a f*ckton of carbohydrates to be consumed before / during / and-or after exercise - which in my case means swimming and cycling.

Note a lot to look at as you can see. You pour ALL of that hydrogel substance into the bottle, and just fill it up with water. Wham, Bam, Thank You, Ma'am.

I tried it today for the first time and as you can see from the bottle and packaging, they remind the user that you MUST mix the drink *just so* because if you don't, you mind as well be drinking my usual go-to sports drink which is Skratch Labs pineapple or their new flavor: passionfruit.

You have the shake the sh*t out of the drink mix in order to get it to fully dissolve and thankfully they provide you with a water bottle; or as we cycling dweebs like to say: "a bidon".

The flavor is actually refreshingly neutral. They don't believe in artificial flavoring and so the drink itself is a cloudy color with a neutral-but-sweet flavor. Imagine drinking slightly viscous sugar water and that's pretty much what you have. I decided to try this BEFORE an intense hill climb session up Mt. Diablo today which I now regret because I made no less than SIX pee stops BEFORE I even got to South Gate. WTF. That also might be because I was a dipshit and had 2 cups of coffee (diuretic but oh so pro when it comes to cycling) at my favorite coffee shop but that's another story ;-)

Anyways, throughout the rest of this week I am going to try consuming this drink 45 minutes BEFORE riding or swimming and seeing how I do. Next week will be DURING training and the week after will be POST training. Stay tuned for a video that details my morning routine which includes my less-than-stellar-morning-face and also my failed attempt at being a hipster barista.
